Mountain Caviar didn’t start with a business plan.
It started with a journey to Nepal.
The mother of one of our founders traveled there to volunteer and, during her stay, became connected with a Buddhist monastery and the people surrounding it. What began as a conversation about bringing traditional Nepalese artwork to Europe slowly developed into something much more valuable: a relationship built on trust.
Through that relationship, we became connected with Nepalese Sherpas, monks and local partners who had lived alongside the traditions of the Himalayas for generations.
And eventually, one product kept coming up:
Shilajit.
We had heard of Shilajit before. In Europe, it was beginning to appear everywhere, from health stores to social media and TikTok.
But we were skeptical.
The deeper we looked into the market, the more questions we had about authenticity, processing and, particularly, heavy-metal contamination.
So instead of believing the marketing, we tested the material ourselves.
We purchased Shilajit directly through our Nepalese network and sent samples to Eurofins for independent laboratory analysis.
The results changed everything.
The tested heavy-metal levels were only a fraction of the applicable European limits, approximately 70 to 77 times below certain permitted threshold values in our testing.
That was the moment we started taking Shilajit seriously.
